Dalwood Shop To Hawley Bottom and Hawley Farm
Return via Summer Lodge
Easy walking except for a short section (15 metres) approaching Hawley Farm where the surface has small loose flint stones which can be covered in running surface water.
2 stiles, Kissing, farm and bridleway gates
Time: 1hr 25 minutes
With your back to the Tuckers Arms, turn left and walk past the Church round the right hand corner and up the slope (The Knapp) to Dalwood Community Shop. At the far end of the building go down the steps and through the kissing gate into the field.
Follow the right hand hedge to the very top of the field and through the farm gate into road. Turn right, walk down the road and take the first turning left, (just before the big house). Walk down the lane and bear right onto track, (fingerpost public footpath). Go to the end of track (can be muddy in wet weather) and through the farm gate, then head diagonally left across the meadow to the footbridge.
Cross the bridge and turn left then head for the sawn off tree trunk leaning out of right hand hedge. Just past the tree go over the stile into the field. With your back to the stile you will see a sapling almost directly in front of you. Cross the field to the left of the sapling and to the right of the new garage.
Turn left behind the garage and through the bridleway gate onto the track. Turn right and go down the track. After about 30 metres the track narrows to a path. Follow the path, (woods on right) as the path swings to the right it heads up a gentle slope which has loose flint stones. (It may have running surface water in wet weather).
At the end of the track turn right and go through the farm gate (Hawley Farm). Go up the slope immediately in front of you, keeping the panelled fence on your left and through the metal farm gate. Bear left and go through another farm gate into the field. Turn right and go up across the field to the top hedge. Turn right and follow this hedge keeping it on your left.
Go through the gate in the corner of the field and keep following left hand hedge. (Lovely views of the lower Corry Valley. In the distance Axminster Town and on the skyline, Raymonds Hill. As you head down the slope you will see Shute Hill Woods and over the white house which is slightly to your right Dalwood Hill Woods).
Still following the left hand hedge go through the bridleway gate to the stile. Go over the stile and turn left through the gap then turn right and follow the new footpath down to the road. Turn right and then left through the bridleway gate (opposite Summer Lodge). Follow the left hand hedge through the gateway and head slightly to your right and through the farm gate.
Cross the field and over the footbridge. Cross the next field and out through the farm gate to the left of the Church into Village Hall car park, turn right down narrow lane which leads out directly opposite the Tuckers Arms.
